The Weather: The same….a little muggy and hot, a little thunder and lightning….more rain…..more thunder and lightning
Really this storm system that has been hanging around gets us pretty wet ..but when it isn’t raining, we are wet from the humidity anyway (except our shoes stay drier). And the cloud cover has kept us from really having to experience the extreme heat of the South since the temps have been in the low 80’s.
Today we had another very sad unfortunate crash. My Pac Tour riding companion Tom Zaharis. 11 miles from town, with only one day left to Savannah, he went down trying to pull his camera out to take a picture. He was riding just behind me. Luckily it was a rural road with almost no traffic. Thunder and lightning was cracking all around us and I was worried about sitting out in the open with him. He fell on his hip and knew immediately that it was broken. He had trouble moving his leg and couldn’t get up. I called the van which I knew was at the motel just 11 miles away and they were there within 15 minutes. Tonight we visited him in the hospital, he is so devastated. He will be transferred to Savannah tonight and may have to have surgery tomorrow or the next day. We are all so bummed….
It can happen in a split second. A moment of not being focused. A light hand on the handlebar. A slippery road, pothole, the wheel in front of you…
Be safe out there. Keep the rubber side down. Our bodies just don’t bounce too well….
Our ride tomorrow is only 86 miles. We have a rendezvous point near the finish so that we can regroup and all ride in together. Then we party!!!!!
No good pictures to share today….too wet!
