December 2019
2019 Year-End Wrap-Up
2019 was another busy year for FCBC. The mission of FCBC is to promote safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation in Fresno County through advocacy and education, and events FCBC put on or participated to support the mission included the following:
FCBC Board of Directors Election Results
At the December 6 general membership meeting, the results of the annual FCBC Board election were announced. Tony Molina, past Vice-Chair, is the new Chair of FCBC and succeeds Ed Smith, who remains on the Board as Past Chair. John Liu, previously an At-large Director, has become Vice-Chair. Newly elected to the Board is Thor Smith, who can reach out to the youth. Remaining on the Board in their current roles are Jack Nelson, Treasurer, Lex Crump, Secretary, Tea Gonzales, Membership Coordinator, and Sara Topete and Jeremy Doyel, At-large Directors.
The Board will be meeting in early January for the annual strategic planning session. Decisions made at the previous strategic planning meeting held at the beginning of this year included focusing efforts on bicycle safety education and succession planning. Those may continue for the coming year, or there may be new goals. Also to be discussed will be which events that FCBC will be participating in for the coming year. Already committed are the Chinese New Year Parade, scheduled for March 7, and three bicycle education events with the U.S. Green Building Council Central California. As always, the Board welcomes suggestions and comments from all members, and those can be sent to info@fresnobike.org.
Cindy Lane Bike Ride
The traditional Cindy Lane holiday ride took place after the general membership meeting on December 6. A good time was had by all.
AB 1266 Implementation Update
Guidance for the implementation of Assembly Bill 1266, which directs Caltrans to develop lane striping, pavement markings, and regulatory signs to allow bicyclists to proceed straight through a left or right-turn lane, is expected to be released in the update of the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices this March. At the most recent City of Fresno Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the City of Fresno Public Works Department mentioned their intention to implement the new guidance, which will place sharrows in right-turn lanes with accompanying signing to allow bicycles to proceed straight in the turn lane.
Next Board Meeting
The next FCBC Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, at a location to be announced as the date gets closer.
Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and a Safe and Happy New Year!
