FCBC Newsletter

May 25, 2026

What a stretch it has been. This newsletter is coming to you in the late stages of Bike Month, and what a Bike Month it has been. We kicked things off with our Bike to Work Day energy station, and Fresno showed up. We also had the 4th Annual City of Fresno Bike Ride at City Hall, and our Bike Through History: The Labor Movement ride took to the streets. And we have the 25th Anniversary Bike Ride to the Blossom Cafe to look forward to on May 31st. Before all of that, April delivered one of the best Earth Days FCBC has ever been part of, plus a fantastic Porchfest showing.

In this month's Newsletter:

  • FCBC had a landmark April — a massive Earth Day at Fresno City College and a beloved Bike Station pop-up at Porchfest.
  • Bike to Work Day was a success — our energy station at Blackstone and Shields drew a great crowd.
  • The 4th Annual City of Fresno Bike Ride was a wonderful event at City Hall.
  • Bike Through History: The Labor Movement, led by James Sponsler of the Fresno Historic Preservation Commission, was an unforgettable ride through local history.
  • There are no FCBC meetings of any kind in May — enjoy Bike Month!

Earth Day 2026: A Landmark Year for FCBC at Fresno City College

April's Earth Day celebration at Fresno City College was one of the most successful FCBC showings in recent memory. FCBC partnered with the Fresno Earth Day team to provide several amenities:

  • Bike Valet — safe locking for attendees.
  • The Bike Station — DIY bike repair pop-up.
  • Bike Parts Swap — A free community swap table.
  • Free Bicycle Raffle — A bicycle was raffled off to a lucky winner.
  • Community Bike Ride — A group ride led by Edith from Fresno City Hall to the event.

FCBC at Porchfest: The Bike Station Rolls Up to Danny's Porch

FCBC had a wonderful presence at Porchfest thanks to board member Danny, who hosted a Bike Station pop-up on his porch, donating his time and wrenching skills to make the event a success.

Seasonal Safety Tip

As the valley heat climbs in May, remember to start rides early to beat the sun, carry extra water, and use sunscreen. With more cyclists on the road during Bike Month, stay visible and signal clearly at intersections.

National Bike Month — Why It Matters

May is National Bike Month. According to the League of American Bicyclists, investing in bike infrastructure reduces traffic congestion, lowers healthcare costs, and strengthens local economies while cutting carbon emissions.

Bike to Work Day: A Great Start to Bike Month

On May 15th, FCBC set up an energy station at Blackstone and Shields from 7:00 to 8:30 am, providing free snacks to riders on their way to work.

4th Annual Ride with the Mayor — Friday, May 15

The 4th Annual City of Fresno Bike Ride at City Hall drew over 32 registered riders. Council President Esparza and District 5 Councilmember Vang were in attendance. The ride was supported by sweep volunteers Samantha and Thor.

Bike Through History: The Labor Movement — Saturday, May 16

About 20 riders joined a two-hour morning ride starting at Tioga-Sequoia Brewing. Highlights included a look at a historic swinging railroad crossing signal and a bicycle mail service stamp presented by docent Kevin.
